FIRSTfriday returns again, and this month we are proud to feature the workof our own Christine Miller in her show, "Interpretation: Paintings in Pastel and Oil." Her solo exhibit features beautiful landscape and still life pieces done in soft chalk pastels and oil paint.
Christine describes herself as a "representational artist inspired by color, contrast and the play of light and shadow." To that extent, the pieces in this show focus on these qualities, displaying subtle nuances of color and masterfully-wrought contrast. A common motif in her paintings is an examination of the qualities of light as it dances over a landscape or paints reflections on water and glass. Come Friday to learn more about her meticulous process that carries her work from a moment of inspiration, through studies and value sketches to the sublime finished pieces you see now.
As an artist, Christine's education is ongoing and ever-evolving. Originally a student of Graphic Design and Illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, she has since studied watercolor, pastel, and silk painting, mosaic-making, and framing in Paris, and watercolor, life drawing, and landscape painting at the Art League of Alexandria. She draws inspiration from a multitude of artists and exhibitions. Her work has appeared in a number of exhibitions over the years, notably at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria and the American Embassy in Paris, and many of her pieces adorn private collections across the US and Europe.
This collection will be on display through the month of September. Christine is one of the resident artists here at Art and Frame of Falls Church
, occupying one of the studios right by our gallery space! If you have questions about her work or would like to purchase or commission a piece, you can stop by our shop to visit her, or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org. Come out Friday, September 3rd to see and hear her talk about the work, and maybe even take one of these beautiful originals home!
